Mixed production: Ghanaian John Dumelo in Cameroon

This is sumptuous for Cameroonian movie lovers and fans of Ghanaian actors! Ladies man and popular Ghanaian actor John Dumelo is on his way to Cameroon to pioneer his country’s collaboration with the Central African giant’s fast-growing film industry. Dumelo is coming on the ticket of his long-time friend and USA-based Cameroonian film producer and director Akim Macualay. TIPTOPSTARS in a subsequent update will provide details on the production which is surely part of the reason for Dumelo’s visit to Cameroon.

Prior to his maiden visit to Cameroon, John Dumelo who has made major strides in Nollywood as well had found a soothing place in the hearts of Cameroonian shot callers. Not only has he starred in several Cameroonian movies (mostly shot in the USA) including his host’s (in Cameroon) The Agony of Homehealth Aides, produced and premièred a couple of months ago, the talented Ghanaian artist was nominated in the best Pan African actor category of the up-coming Cameroon Entertainment Awards (CEA).

Earlier attempts to get Van Vicker, yet another crowd-puller Ghanaian movie icon come to Cameroon failed some three years ago. Vicker had however expressed willingness to coming, but a late assignment obstructed this plan.

As he rides on with the exploration of new grounds, Dumelo, whose face and fame has been well engrained in the hearts of many Africa movie lovers comes to take the relay baton from Nigerians who have been on a regular train to Cameroon for close to a decade now. Dust is yet to settle in Buea and its environs after Jim Iyke and Uche Jumbo pulled hundreds of fans and curious onlookers each time they were out shooting on locations in Limbe and Buea in the first quarter of 2012.

As Cameroon awaits the coming of John Dumelo, pundits are definitely stunt by the dramatic speed and upward trend of events, experienced by the country’s film industry of late. Though critics sometimes disagree with the featuring of foreign artists in our movies, their participation has in no way defied the admirable performance of Cameroonian actors who always feature top in such mixed productions. When Emeka Ike in 2009 indicated that he was quite pleased with Solange Yijika, Muma Pascal aka Bob and Lynno Lovert, he wasn’t joking. He had worked with them in Neba Lawrence’s Royal Destiny produced by Ayi Chatou Inoua and discovered they were ripe for the job.
