Baby Angel 3He may go by the name Baby, but Bankok-based Baby Angel’s musical carer had since graduated from the baby stage to a more mature grade. His angelic voice clearly explains why the name of Angel fits him. Yet, this Cameroonian who lives in Thailand thinks he has not exposed all about his talent – there is much in the pipeline. Moukon A Abah Ange Herve (Baby Angel’s real names) sings and excels in the art. With a mastery of the English language, though hailing from the French-speaking divide of Cameroon, the 1.83m-tall RnB singer also jacks in Soul, Slow and Gospel. When we met him, Baby Angel informed us that he is a Business Administration graduate from one of Douala’s higher institutions of learning. Among other things, the 33-year-old musician explained how he got into singing and his take on actors who become musicians and vice versa. He spoke with our Sweden correspondent Agbor Jenet Manyi. Excerpts!

Jenet Agbor (JA): How long have you been into music?

Baby Angel (BA): I can say from my childhood. In the nursery school, I would sing and entertain crowds at manifestations.

JA: From where does your inspiration come?

BA: First, from my dad, a lover of music and a gospel singer. Then, Michael Jackson!

JA: Trace your way into professional singing?

BA: In fact, I started recording my first song in 2003 and released my first CD in December 2010.

JA: What is the title?

BA: B.A Show!

JA: How does the management of your music works?

BA: I’m the writer, composer, singer and producer.

JA: When do you plan to release your next album?

BA: May be two years time.

JA: Do you have the title of the album already?

BA: Yes, The Return!

JA: The return of the King?

BA: Hahahahhaa yeah! Pwerhaps.

JA: Who are some of the people working with you?

BA:JP Fiong, a very amazing sound engineer who has been a music programmer for Petit Pays. Also in my album, I am featuring The Jay, Ctzen, Edwin D and Love. At the moment, I’m part of the recording crew for the songs of VAl and DJ Vintage for an explosive album coming up soon.

JA: We are in a mix entertainment world today where movie actors are becoming musicians and musicians turning into actors. What is your opinion about this new twist?

BA: For me it is a good thing. I believe music and movie are two sides of the same coin. That is why acting in movies is one of my biggest dreams. I’m planning on doing a musical, just like the Indians do.

JA: How would you assess entertainment industry in Cameroon?

BA: I can say the biggest problem is the media.
Baby Angel 2If the media could devise a means of promoting music and movies that are Cameroonian, more than those coming from abroad, we would cover much grounds. Another problem is the government. If the government implement stiffer measures against piracy and support people who have genuine dreams, ours will be a great industry. Also, if Cameroonians decide to provide us a comfortable market for our products, we won’t complain any more.

JA: What advice would you give to folks in the industry?

BA: They should make unity prevail over disunity. I encourage team spirit, after all, one hand cannot tie a bundle.

JA: Thank you very much for your time.

BA: The pleasure is mine.
