One good thing about performing artists is that they are flexible. They would sing if you want them to. Actors would dance if you set the stage for them to do so. In short, they would get into any garment. Of late, movie stars have been diversifying their talents and music seems to be the quickest next option. Two of such film stars who have gone music are USA-based Taka Tanni and Mairo Sanda.
Produced by Walta Blackson under the banner of Blackson Music (for Taka Tanni) and Lazare Productions (Mairo Sanda), both actresses have been source of entertainment via Zouk tracks that have hit the web in the past couple of weeks. Coincidentally, both songs carry similar themes – love, and while Taka’s True Love expresses the artist’s unconditionally love for her loved one, Mairo’s Thinking About You tells the story of the star’s mind that harbours nothing else, but her most beloved.
In a typically movie-set driven approach, Taka, in the video of True Love cruises the shores of a beautiful-looking sandy beach as she chants her love song. She is musically accompanies in the track by BAAM’s Adele-Clarise who adds more flavour to the danceable Zouk piece. Taka is expected to perform at an event to honour Mali’s leader.
On her part, Mairo, in a one-woman show shakes her body with much dexterity as she reminds her beloved that she won’t stop thinking about him. Also in the video, actress Mairo strikes the strings of an acoustic guitar, smiling broadly and enjoying the piece. “I’m tempted to think she is doing a movie,” a Mairo fan joked when we talked with her to react on the actresses music exploit.
Meanwhile, TIPTOPSTARS will be talking to both movie queens to find out more about their music careers. Watch out for a subsequent update on that.
Actors on the music stage is a growing phenomenon in Cameroon, just like neigbouring Nigeria. Not long ago, some two Cameroonian productions had a plethora of popular musicians performing on movie sets to the utter satisfaction of directors of the said projects. While Weg Muller Ikome brought out the acting prowess of singers such as Achale, Sylva Bright, Tata Kinge, etc in Not My Will, Elvis Tanwie made use of the acting skills of Richard King and Sine in Ride My Wrongs. Who says actors are not multi-talented?
