Arguably, Sister Dearest has lingered in the minds of film lovers within the Cameroonian community in the diaspora than any other movie. Appetite for the John Uche film, produced by Lilian Ndi has continuously risen to great proportions since news of its March 22 premiere went public way back in January this year. With just a couple of days to the movie’s official release, anxiety has grown even more. “We’re set and just waiting for Saturday to turn out and support this beautiful project,” a Maryland, USA resident and lover of Cameroonian movies told us from her base at press time.
According to organizers of the premiere, all is set. “It’s not been so easy to put things together, but we thank God, all will be fine,” Lilian Ndi, producer of the upcoming movie told us. The producer told us she has hardly had a sound sleep since the project for the movie’s premiere went public. “We’ve however had immeasurable support from fans, friends, well-wishers and the entire Cameroonian community here,” she explained.
In a build-up to the premiere, some actors, starring in Sister Dearest have been explaining their experience in the project to journalists. Talking to Afrikka Radio’s African Cocktail with Ernest Kanjo, Claudio Oben said it was a memorable experience. “I won’t say I’m anxious, I’m excited,” he said, referring to the upcoming premiere.
“Just like its premiere is going to be, Sister Dearest is a classic movie and I feel honoured starring in the movie,” Eyong Jose, speaking after Claudio told African Cocktail.
Speaking earlier, Nigerian-born Paula Obaseki (also starring in the movie) explained that working with fellow Cameroonians in the project was such a unique experience. “Cast and crew members were really amazing and we had a fantastic time on set,” she told African Cocktail.
Meanwhile, Sister Dearest is coming to enrich the fast-growing Cameroonian film industry now said to be attracting enormous attention from other foreign film structures. Shot last year, it also features Pridine Fru, Lilian Ndi, Kang Quintus, Rajah Roger Muntu, Mirabel Asongong, JenilleAlison Mungo and others. Its premiere will take place at 8844 Washington BLVD, Jessup, MD, 20794 beginning 8pm.
