“There have been several movies done by Africans to pain the picture of what immigrants go through in the diaspora, but Illegal Immigrants will certainly be different,” Agbor Jenet Manyi told TIPTOPSTARS editor. When we got to the Sweden-based Cameroonian filmmaker to tell us more about this up-coming movie, Agbor was clear on the fact that the story of the ups and downs of Africans in the diaspora could only be best told in a cinematographically well crafted piece. “We have even gone beyond to trace the reasons why scores of young Africans are pushed out of their countries in the first place, why they stay with the illegal status and what they risk facing,” Agbor told us further.
For one thing, Illegal Immigrants is a story born from the author’s personal experience who unlike other immigrants would shy from recounting ordeal they go through. After watching the movie, the filmmakers intend to have the audience make a decision whether or not they should ‘fall bush’ (common Cameroonian coinage for immigration).
Illegal Immigration was shot on location in Cameroon, Sweden and Spain in 2012 and 2013 respectively. The Mix Productions movie directed by Agbor Jenet and edited by Ifyboy has Evans Ifeanyi and Anurin Nwunembom as Directors of Photography.
Starring in the movie are actors from several countries including Mpiece, Addy Timany, Kalevi, Nchifor Valery, Prince Ogugua Igwe, Mikael Eriksson, Malin Larson, Hans Högfeldt, Christian Zea, ibrahim Ebrima Faal, Margarita Mekkulova, Lita Roger, Sabric Bendrihem, Arm Medhat, Susan Epede, Ivan Perel Lozano, Agbor Jenet etc.
Illegal Immigrants comes after Dilemma, a Mix Production movie that handles HIV/AIDS, another social challenge.
