When TIPTOPSTARS got Neba Lawrence on the line to Yaounde early Monday, the now celebrated Cameroonian film director was on his way to Asaba, Nigeria where editing of Blood or Wine, a Jim Iyke produced movie will kick off in the coming days. “I’ll be part of the editing crew of the film and will be in Nigeria for about a month, which the time is set aside for the entire exercise,” Neba told us, as he got ready to check out of Cameroon’s capital Yaounde. According to Neba, Blood or Wine editor fondly called DXF, named after his Asaba studio is bent on giving the movie the best post-production treatment the movie deserves. “He masters his job and would not spare any effort in bringing out a good piece for the anxious audience,” he said. Nickel, as the film editor is also called was the Director of Photography (D.O.P) of the movie in question, shot in Limbe and Buea from late March to early April 2012. Perhaps, what makes this story palatable is that the Jim Iyke produced Blood or Wine whose Executive Producer is Cameroonian-born Henry Neba aka Henri Milion is directed by Neba Lawrence. Also, the Cameroonian director had the challenge of directing one of Africa’s best actresses and Nollywood star, Uche Jombo, starring in Blood or Wine alongside Jim Iyke, Solange Yijika, Quinta Eyong Ashu, Alenne Menget, Epule Jeffery, Solange Ojong, Magdalene Agbor aka mama Meg and Che Luke Baryl. The Nollywood actress who was shooting in Cameroon for the first time was quite impressed with the young film director she was discovering. Uche Jombo expressed her amazement with the work Neba and crew did. “She said she did not believe it was going to turn out to be a great production,” Neba explained. He told us further that Uche promised to return on Cameroonian locations any time she was invited. On his part, producer Jim Iyke, the African movie superstar whose popularity needs not to be over emphasized, left Cameroon quite satisfied with the work done by Neba. This gave the actor cum producer a good reason to praise his decision of Cameroon as the movie’s location and perhaps the choice of the young and talented Cameroonian director to call the shots for Blood or Wine. The movie that will span between 60 to 75 minutes is shot for the wide screen, using techniques that are different from home video. The Option Company LTD and Untamed Entertainment (Jim Iyke’s production company) production recounts a day-to-day life experience which viewers would find no reason to miss a sequence of. It benefitted from the support of several film loving and illustrious personalities including the Nigerian Consulate General in Buea and the Mayor of Tiko Richard Tita Fombon. Limbe’s Semme Beach Hotel and Buea’s Hotel Residence Carlos in Muea were also instrumental in the success of the production of the first phase of Blood or Wine. These personalities and structures have been contributing hugely to the growth of the film industry in Cameroon of late. To reach a wider audience, Blood or Wine will be lib-synced in French. Everything being equal, the movie will be premiered in several places around the world including Cameroon, Ghana, USA, UK and South Africa. Meanwhile, Neba Lawrence has directed many successfully acclaimed movies. Some of them will be released in the coming days or weeks including Pink Poison, Troubled Kingdom.
