Movies: Teenage Brother Replicates Mayohchu

tiptopstars 1Child or teen acting is still a mystery in Cameroon. A child or teen actor may never fly the skies in the film industry, not because they are not talented, but largely because writers seldom find a place for them, in their stories. For some fortunate reason, the handful of child or teen actors who have starred or featured in Cameroonian movies, have performed excellently. That perhaps would have been a motivation to filmmakers to use them more, but that is not the case.

Fritz Jarvis Atem-Ebai, 15, is a teen actor, many would be surprised to learn about. Why? He happens to be as talented as his younger sister, Mayohchu Atem-Ebai who is quite popular in the industry, yet the former is little known.

Though they were bringing him on set for his first ever movie assignment, producers of A Good Time To Divorce (AGTTD) were definitely not in any risk bearing venture with Fritz. Of course, the teen actor turned out to be a great asset to the movie.

Playing Leonard, the son of Mr Nchifor Thomas (Alenne Menget) and Rita Nchifor (Lami Lum-Manfor), Fritz blows the mind of the viewer with brilliant acting. “I’m privileged to have worked with Fritz,” Lum Lami-Manfor, one of the producers of AGTTD told TIPTOPSTARS. “He is such a talented boy,” she mentioned further.

Observers now hold that Fritz’s performance in AGTTD is one of the best to have been put up by a Cameroonian teen in recent years. “And you won’t believe that I was a little nervous prior to going on set – that was my first experience,” the actor told us. “The director needed an elder brother for the character Annie, played by my younger sister, Mayohchu. Atem-Ebai. He spoke to my parents about it and they asked if I was interested,” Fritz explained how he got on AGTTD. “I readily accepted and that’s how me and my blood sister played Mr Thomas’ children in the story,” he said.

Inspired by the said younger sister, Fritz told us he was determined to put a better performance in AGTTD than Mayohchu. The actor said: “Knowing it was my first time to go on a movie set, she kept taunting me, until I challenged her.”

The Atem-Ebai’s have always been proud of their celebrated daughter, but they become even prouder each time they watch AGTTD. “We were taken aback by his performance when we first watched the movie,” Ayuk Atem-Ebai, the teen actor’s mum revealed. “He did far above what we had expected and this means he and his sister are contributing to erect the wall on an entertainment family foundation already put in place by their parents,” she went further.

According to Ayuk Atem-Ebai, Fritz’s parents have encouraged the teen actor to pursue acting and promised to be by his side in this journey. She explained: “However, he is taking his time to do so and not quite certain yet, if he will consider it.” “Should he take the decision to push his acting career forward, that’d be great, but, it is his choice to do so or not to.”

The 1.70m-tall actor, a Form 5 (11th Grade) student, is said to be a shy boy and does not desire much attention but wouldn’t mind being seen playing basketball and football. “These, plus drawing, and reading, are my hobbies,” he said.
