Managing
author’s rights in Cameroon,
from all indications is a herculean task. Odile Ngaska, the pioneer chair of
the newly-created body, Société Cameroonaise des Arts Musicale (SOCAM)
definitely understands this and has pledged to respect the tenets of the game,
God being her helper. The gospel singer was installed recently in Yaounde by the Minister
of Culture, Ama Tutu Muna. It is hoped that Ngaska has kicked off fully and
that calm will return to the house. Our musicians have to go back to their
books and start composing such beautiful songs we use to savour in the past.
