“I was fond of criticising other actors until I was
reminded that I needed to prove that I could do better. That was when a bell
rang in my head.” Alenne Menget, hope-rising Cameroonian actor used this
anecdote to explain why he has continuously sharpened his skills in home video.
The talented oral artist (also a singer and comedian) will be remembered more
for his role as the worldly pastor in Sacrament, a 2005 Cameroon-Nigeria co-production
that hit the movie market. “It was the first movie I was featuring in, but that
did not deter my performance,” says the young actor who is also a talented
journalist.
Perhaps, Alenne’s contact with
Nollywood stars; Nkem Owoh (Ukwa), John Okafor (Mr Ibu) Sam Loko, and Emmanuel Franz has been quite
inspirational. Individually, these renowned actors have had to commend his
skill in the art. Such skills include eloquence, script mastery, and the
ability to mimic.
The 1.76m-tall actor from the North West Province, at one time fondly called Pa
Dan, plans to produce a comedy show that will condemn contemporary societal
ills. That will however not stop him from composing sound tracks for movies and
reviewing plays written by his retired father who is also an actor.
